What Is TikTok Premium?

TikTok does not offer a single subscription called “TikTok Premium” the way Netflix or Spotify do. What TikTok has built instead is a layered system of premium experiences, some designed for viewers who want deeper access to their favorite creators, and others built for creators who want to monetize their content beyond ad revenue. Together, these features form what most people are referring to when they search for TikTok Premium: a collection of paid tiers, exclusive content tools, and fan-driven community programs that sit on top of the free platform.

Understanding how each piece works, what it costs, and who it is for saves a lot of confusion. This guide breaks down every component of TikTok’s premium ecosystem as it stands in 2025.

TikTok Subscription: Exclusive Content for Fans

TikTok’s Subscription feature is the closest thing the platform has to a traditional creator membership. It lets viewers pay a recurring monthly fee to join a creator’s private community and unlock content and perks that regular followers cannot access.

Creators set their own monthly price, with options ranging from $2.99 to $99.99 per month. The default starting price is $5.99. TikTok users pay in their local currency, so creators in international markets need to account for exchange rates and local tax rules when setting their price.

What Subscribers Get

When a viewer subscribes to a creator, they gain access to a range of exclusive benefits. These include subscriber-only posts and videos, a private Sub Space for direct community interaction, exclusive chats and messages, custom sticker packs (up to 35), and a visible Subscriber badge that appears next to their name in comments. Creators can also offer custom perks from scratch, such as voting on future video topics, follow-backs, collaboration invites, and anything else that fits their community.

TikTok updated the Subscription model significantly in September 2025, sharpening its focus on non-LIVE content creators. Feed-based and long-form video creators now have a cleaner, more defined home in the Subscription program, while LIVE-focused creators shifted to the separate Super Fan program.

Creator Eligibility for Subscription

To turn on Subscriptions, creators must be at least 18 years old, have an account in good standing, and hold at least 10,000 followers. They also need to have generated at least 100,000 video views in the previous calendar month, or meet specific LIVE eligibility requirements. Creators can find and activate the feature through the Monetization module in TikTok Studio.

Creator Revenue Share

After app store fees, creators receive 70% of subscription revenue. Creators who have at least 10,000 followers and generate at least one million video views in the previous calendar month also qualify for a 20% performance bonus, bringing the maximum revenue share to 90%. In the United States and Canada, the base rate after processing fees is 70%. Outside those regions, TikTok forwards 50% of its net subscription revenue to creators.

Super Fan: TikTok’s Premium LIVE Membership

Super Fan is TikTok’s LIVE-exclusive membership program, launched on September 15, 2025, replacing the previous LIVE Subscription system. It is priced at a flat $9.99 per month, or the local currency equivalent, and is designed specifically for creators who build their community through live streaming.

What Super Fans Get

Super Fan subscribers receive an exclusive fan badge that stays permanently visible, automatic Fan Club membership with faster leveling, access to Super Fan-only LIVE rooms, exclusive comment sections, a dedicated Super Fan space with posts, chats, and polls, and special gift access including the Go Popular gift, which earns double points during use. Creators can optionally add priority co-host status, pinned comments, shout-outs, mini-games, and Super Fan goal bars to their streams.

For existing subscribers who were primarily engaged with LIVE content, TikTok automatically transitioned accounts to Super Fan on September 15, 2025. Subscribers who were paying less than $9.99 per month had their lower price honored for three months before moving to the standard $9.99 rate.

Creator Revenue from Super Fan

TikTok shares up to 50% of its net Super Fan revenue with creators after app store and processing fees. Creators can track earnings through Balance in the app or via LIVE Center under the Fan Club section.

TikTok Series: Premium Paywalled Content

TikTok Series is a separate feature that lets eligible creators publish collections of premium video content behind a one-time paywall. Unlike Subscription, which is a recurring monthly membership, Series is a purchase-once model where viewers pay for permanent access to a specific content collection.

A single Series can contain up to 80 videos, with each video running anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. That extended length is notably longer than TikTok’s standard video limit and opens the format to tutorials, courses, deep-dive storytelling, cooking series, educational content, and anything else that benefits from longer runtime.

Series Pricing

Creators set their own Series price, ranging from $0.99 to $189.99. Viewers can purchase access directly through in-video links or through the creator’s profile page. TikTok reviews each submitted Series before it goes live, with the review process taking up to 72 hours depending on the number of videos in the collection.

Series Eligibility

To apply for Series, creators must be at least 18 years old, have an account at least 30 days old with a public profile, have posted at least three public videos in the last 30 days, and have received at least 1,000 authentic video views in the past month. Creators with fewer than 10,000 followers who meet all other requirements can apply by submitting a link to premium content they have sold on another platform via the Creator Center in the TikTok app. Applications do not guarantee access, and regional availability varies.

Subscription vs. Super Fan: What Is the Difference?

Since TikTok restructured its paid community tools in September 2025, it is worth being clear about how Subscription and Super Fan differ.

Subscription is built for creators whose primary output is feed-based videos and long-form content outside of LIVE. It is priced between $2.99 and $99.99 per month, set by the creator, and covers exclusive non-LIVE content, badges, stickers, and customizable perks.

Super Fan is built exclusively for LIVE creators and is fixed at $9.99 per month. It covers everything LIVE-related, including exclusive streams, LIVE chat access, Fan Club benefits, and special gift privileges.

Creators can run both programs simultaneously. A subscriber paying for a creator’s Subscription gets their feed content perks, while a Super Fan gets the LIVE experience. TikTok allows creators to offer both without conflict, and fans can choose to join one or both depending on where they engage most.

How TikTok Premium Compares to Other Platforms

TikTok’s paid creator ecosystem puts it directly in competition with Patreon, YouTube Memberships, and Twitch Subscriptions, all of which offer similar fan-funded models. TikTok’s Subscription revenue share of up to 90% for top creators is competitive, particularly compared to Twitch’s standard 50/50 split and YouTube’s channel membership fee structure.

The Series paywall feature pushes TikTok further into YouTube’s territory by supporting longer video formats and one-time purchase access, giving creators a way to sell expertise-based or narrative content to paying audiences without relying on the algorithm.

That said, analysts have noted that convincing TikTok’s largely free-content-accustomed audience to pay for anything, even from their favorite creators, remains a challenge. With so much high-quality content available for free across the platform and across the web, getting viewers to spend even a small amount on paywalled videos requires a creator with a particularly loyal or niche audience.

Who Should Use TikTok Premium Features?

For viewers, TikTok’s paid options make the most sense for those with a genuine connection to a specific creator. Subscribing to someone’s monthly community or becoming a Super Fan is a meaningful way to support creators directly, and the exclusive content and access perks are a step above simply following and liking.

For creators, the three tools serve different purposes. Subscription works best for building predictable monthly revenue from an engaged, non-LIVE audience. Super Fan is the right tool for streamers who already have an active LIVE following and want to deepen those relationships. Series suits creators with genuinely valuable or educational content that viewers are willing to pay a one-time fee to access.

All three programs require creators to already have a real audience in place. These are retention and monetization tools, not growth tools, and they work best when a creator’s community is already engaged enough to want more.

How to Get Started with TikTok Subscriptions

Setting up Subscription on TikTok is straightforward. Creators navigate to their profile, open TikTok Studio, scroll to the Monetization module, and select Subscription. From there, the app walks through the eligibility check and setup process. Creators can customize their subscription package, set a price, add perks, and manage their community from the Subscription Management page directly on their profile.

For Super Fan, setup happens through LIVE Center in the TikTok Studio. Creators can configure a Super Fan goal bar, set up exclusive LIVE rooms, manage fan badges, and prepare Super Fan-only content before going live.

For Series, creators can start from TikTok Studio on mobile or from the desktop at tiktok.com/series. After clicking New Series, they add a title, description, cover image, and pricing, then upload and submit videos for review.

The Bigger Picture: TikTok’s Creator Economy Strategy

TikTok’s premium features are part of a wider push to position the platform as a place where creators can build sustainable income, not just viral moments. With the September 2025 split of Subscription and Super Fan, the October 2025 revenue share increase for top creators in the US and Canada, and the ongoing expansion of Series to more regions, TikTok is clearly trying to compete more aggressively for creator loyalty.

The platform knows that creators who can make real money on TikTok are less likely to shift their focus to YouTube or Instagram. The more robust the monetization options, the stronger TikTok’s position becomes in the creator economy, both for retaining talent and for attracting new creators who are choosing platforms based on earning potential.

Whether TikTok’s premium model fully closes the gap with more established monetization platforms remains to be seen. But for creators and fans already active on TikTok, the current suite of paid tools offers more flexibility and earning potential than ever before.
